Cantaloupe Charente F1
A very early variety. Fruits are spherical, with a weight of 1/2 lb (1-2 kg), and smooth white-cream skin. The orange pulp has a delicate sweet taste and characteristic aroma.
Planting instructions:
Cantaloupes need a long, warm growing season to set fruit, so it’s best to give the seeds a head start indoors when growing them in a cooler climate. Start the seeds in peat pots two to four weeks before setting the plants out in the garden. Sow one seed per pot at a depth of 1/4 inch and water well to moisten the soil. Temperatures between 60 and 95 degrees F (15-35 С) provide the best conditions for germinating cantaloupe seeds. Keep the soil moist and watch for sprouts in five to 10 days. Wait until the cantaloupe seeds produce several sets of mature leaves before moving them outdoors to acclimate to garden conditions; then transplant them into a sunny garden bed with fast-draining soil after the last frost. In warmer microclimates, start cantaloupe seeds directly in the garden. Wait until two weeks after the last frost when soil temperatures reach 70 degrees Fahrenheit (20 С) before direct-seeding your saved cantaloupe seeds into a prepared bed. Sow the seeds at a depth of 1/2 to 1 inch (1.5 to 3 cm) and 1 foot (0.3 m) apart in rows spaced 5 feet/1.5 m (apart to accommodate the vines’ mature spread. Keep the soil evenly moist but not sopping wet and watch for sprouts in a week or two if soil temperatures stay above 70 degrees Fahrenheit (20 C).
